Position Summary:

The Captain Waiter is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the dining room staff to ensure an exceptional dining experience for guests. This role involves greeting and seating guests, overseeing service, managing reservations, and ensuring adherence to restaurant standards and procedures. The Captain Waiter acts as a key liaison between the kitchen and dining room staff, ensuring seamless communication and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Guest Interaction:

  • Warmly greet and welcome guests upon arrival.
  • Assist guests with seating and present menus.
  • Thank guests and provide a fond farewell, encouraging repeat visits.

Service Management:

  • Ensure guests receive prompt and efficient service.
  • Oversee table settings, ensuring they meet the event and service standards.
  • Serve food and beverages to guests with professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • Check with guests regularly to ensure satisfaction with each course and beverage.

Menu Knowledge:

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the menu and presentation standards.
  • Answer guest questions regarding the menu and make recommendations.
  • Communicate effectively with the kitchen about special requests, dietary needs, and allergies.

Order Management:

  • Record transactions and orders accurately in the Point of Sales (POS) system.
  • Present final bills to guests and process payments.
  • Perform shift closing procedures on the POS terminal, ensuring accurate cash and credit card settlements.

Cleanliness and Organization:

  • Ensure the dining area and workstations are clean and organized throughout the shift.
  • Clear and reset tables promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness of china, glassware, and silverware.

Team Coordination:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the dining room staff.
  • Train and develop junior staff, providing guidance and support.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive working environment.

Quality Control:

  • Conduct regular checks to ensure the quality and presentation of food and beverages.
  • Monitor service standards to ensure consistency with the restaurant’s brand and SOPs.

Inventory and Supplies:

  • Conductmonthly inventory checks on operating equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure adequate stocking of necessary items and materials.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Complete daily responsibilities and tasks for each shift.

  • Assist with table reservations and manage the seating plan.

  • Perform any other duties related to food and beverage service as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a supervisory role within a restaurant or hotel setting.
  • Strong knowledge of food and beverage service.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Proficiency in using Point of Sales (POS) systems.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Working Conditions:

  • May require standing for long periods and lifting or carrying heavy items.
